Eugenia Kim

Eugenia Kim is a first-generation Korean American known for her stylish and funky handcrafted hats. Growing up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the young Kim had aspired to follow her father’s footsteps in becoming a doctor. However, after being hospitalized for a broken back during her freshman year at Dartmouth College, she realized that she no longer wanted to pursue medicine. Upon graduation, she moved to New York City as an intern for Conde Nast and later found a job as an assistant at Allure Magazine. To further explore her budding interest in fashion, she enrolled part time at the Parsons School of Design where she took hat-making classes. Her time at Allure came to an abrupt end when she was fired for wearing lingerie to the office. Devastated, she gave herself a haircut that turned out so badly she had no choice but to shave her entire head. To cover her baldness, she started making hats to wear while her hair grew out.
