Estée Lauder was born Josephine Esther Mentzer and got her inspiration from her uncle, who was a chemist and owned laboratories in Brooklyn. He was specializing in creams and perfumes that Lauder was selling to salons before the creation of her eponymous brand that was launched in New York in 1946. Starting with just four skincare products, Lauder was able to grow the company into one of the leading makers of upscale fragrances, cosmetics, and hair products in the entire world.</p>
