Original, effortless and unpretentious style with eccentric-chic undertones has made Karen Walker’s designs one of the most desirable amongst the fashion elite. As the first Australian designer to have a solo show at New York Fashion Week, her staying power has not wavered over a nearly two-decade career.
Walker began her fashion career in 1989, garnering international attention with her first runway collection at Hong Kong Fashion Week in 1998. Like many contemporary designers, she fuses contradictory notions of masculine and feminine, luxe and pedestrian, as well as street and utility. However, it is Walker’s unique grasp of pop culture obscurity that gives her designs the pleasant and alluring quality that cannot be described. Season after season, her collections stay true to offering practical, comfortable fabrics presented stylishly. Today, the Karen Walker label can be found across more than 250 stores globally, including New York, London, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Sydney, and Tokyo. The brand has expanded beyond ready-to-wear and now includes eyewear, jewelry, home wares and beauty.
Karen Walker’s Fall/Winter 2016 exhibition is a testament to the designer’s artistic vision – elegantly eccentric and effortlessly wearable. High-performance pieces speak to the moment while maintaining a timelessness through craftsmanship and creativity. Boxy cropped tops, high-rise pants and signature silk prints saturate the collection with season-savvy specialties. Walker’s characteristic optimism translates perfectly into on-trend graphic knit jumpers. Taupe leather in voluminous shapes infuses the collection with luxury for seasonal function and finesse, balanced by slinky silk print tops. Suit separates rendered in heavyweight Houndstooth fabric add retro-charm that’s always in style. With a distinguished depth and a lightness of spirit, each Karen Walker Fall/Winter ’16 piece will be treasured among your wardrobe collective.
Rebecca Taylor infuses inspiration from her native New Zealand into her eponymous womenswear label. Her childhood passion for sewing and costumes brought her to New York City in the 90’s, where she founded her international brand around an intuition for what women want to wear.
