READ THIS IF YOU THOUGHT POLKA DOTS WERE OUT OF FASHION IN 2019
Every new year comes with a dash of surprise when it comes to the trends that ‘stayed in’ and the ones which ‘went out’. Then there are some trends that are evergreen. If you are a polka dot fan in 2019, rejoice, we’ve got good news for you! The spotted, dotted, dalmation print that was on it’s trending high in 2018 has been resurrected, yet again.
If you thought polka dots were out of fashion in 2019, take cue from Celine’s off-shoulder polka pieces with huge sleeves detailing to Carolina Herrera’s darling silhouettes with monochrome polka dots to fall in love with. Interestingly, polka dots on transparent pieces also came into the scene this year with designer collections like that of Prada. Crazy combination of dots, prints and colors coexisted on the runways. Let’s just say that polka dots in 2019 only got better.
This year, the SS’2019 runways were full of colorful polka dots but the black and white is a classic that surely brings the mid 90s nostalgia back. Just like ruffles and neons, polka dot trend 2019 is a fun one that will keep your wardrobe young, happy and chic.
In the March, 2019 issue of Vogue magazine, newly weds Justin and Hailey Bieber broke the internet not with just their whirlwind love story features but also with their matching polka dot resort wear by Dolce & Gabbana.
Next in line to exhibit this retro spring trend in full swing is the Milan fashion week 2019. From waist-hugging midi dresses, coat dresses in wider (read: wilder!) polka dots design patterns by Moschino, Max Mara and Celine to almighty polka at Marni, and Giorgio Armani. It’s safe to say that the print took over the fashion week. Matching separates to romantic blouses, sneakers to retro swimwear, there is a polka dotted piece for every occasion in 2019.
While black and white polka dots ruled the majority of Spring 2019 runways but a considerable debut of oversized and 80s-inspired versions to colorful polka and much smaller prints on flouncy dresses was seen. According to a curious belief, wearing polka dots in new year’s beginning and on the new year’s eve means wealth throughout the year! You know what to wear on NYE 2020 now.
