Before Valentino popularized well-heeled constituents with spiky footwear, Illinois native Dana Lorenz was incorporating spikes and other hardware into her experimental jewelry pet project. Originally trained as a painter at the University of Iowa and School of Art Institute in Chicago, Lorenz joined the fashion community under the tutelage of powerhouses Gucci and Donna Karan. In 2006, spurred by the growing interest in her unconventional jewelry designs, Lorenz launched the upscale, statement jewelry line Fenton to wide-acclaim. In 2013, Fallon debuted at New York’s Fashion Week for the Spring 2014 season, making Lorenz the first designer to stage a jewelry-centric runway show in the history of NYFW.
