Founded in 2010 by seasoned industry veteran Alessandro Dell’Acqua, No.21 has become a premiere shopping destination; specializing in men’s and women’s apparel, and accessories. Then a women’s only brand, No.21 first hit the runway during Milan Fashion Week F/W 2010/2011, where they filled the runway with unique looks that crossed the typical gender lines as it deals with fashion. This has since become a staple of the No.21 image. In 2013, Dell’Acqua introduced the menswear leg to the brand; made up of 21 statement pieces that perfectly captured the essence of the No.21 man. After opening their first flagship in Tokyo, Japan, No.21 went on to open a second brick and mortar in the city of Milan. Since their debut, No.21 has been seen on notable faces such as June Ambrose and Amy Schumer. Today, they continue to grow as a brand through their strong social media presence and innovative designs.
For No.21’s Resort 2017, Creative Director Alessandro Dell’Acqua pays homage to American academia sportswear uniform of a bygone era, with the attitude of a 50’s Italian movie star. The looks would suit a fashion-forward bookworm –a total knockout beneath her stand-out parkas, hoodies and bombers.
The collection has an overall retro feel but the resulting ensembles are refreshingly modern and charming. Mohair cardigans were paired with sweetheart dresses, oversized hooded parkas were embellished with striking diamanté belts, while ostrich feathers peppered a black tuxedo coat, a waist-cinching belt and even on a sporty hoodie. No.21’s signature nod to sportswear references were subtly portrayed this season, resulting in an edgy contrast between athletic and demure. Case in point: the hoodie paired with a sexy mini dress and a soft mohair bomber decorated with vibrant flowers.
Drawing on her Indian heritage for inspiration, designer Saloni Lodha’s eponymous lapel translates native textiles and silhouettes into chic, contemporary statement pieces. Raised in a traditonal Rajastahani family.
